Battery cage ban

As of January 2012 battery cages, witch typically hold four or five hens, wil be banned in the EU.

Over the past couple of years Compassion in World Farming has been actively lobbying for the ban of barren battery cage for chickens. As a direct result of this a lobbying, this ban comes into force in the  EU in January 2012. This ban is one of the most significant steps forward ever taken for farm animal welfare. A battery cage typically holds four or five hens, with a minimum legal floor space allowance per bird of less than an A4 sheet of paper.

Free range chickens have a mutch better quality of life.

A major reason for the success of this campaign has been the public pressure exerted upon various governments.  Spanish authorities for example, received over 16,000 emails of protest earlier this year, forcing them to accept this ban.

Compassion in World Farming was founded over 40 years ago in 1967 by a British farmer who became horrified by the development of modern, intensive factory farming. Today they campaign peacefully to end all cruel factory farming practices. They believe that the biggest cause of cruelty on the planet deserves a focused, specialised approach – so they only work on farm animal welfare.
