Wickedfood Earth Farm is starting a brand new chapter, as of Sunday 10 September Wickedfood Earth Farm will be offering mezze country lunches, and to kick off, the first 10 people to book will receive a 50% discount (booking essential). More ….

Spring is definitely here – all our fruit trees are in flower and bearing a late frost, it looks like our fruit season will be starting a month earlier than usual. We have started our planting for our Country Cooking School summer food gardens, and are starting to harvest the first of the spring crops – asparagus, broad beans, Swiss chard and green garlic. See blow.

Food Garden Workshop

Whether you live in a flat, or sprawling mansion, you can grow your own food, and become more sustainable. In this workshop Wickedfood Earth Country Cooking School will show you how to establish a vegetable garden, be it a patio or hanging garden, or something more substantial. We’ll give you tips on compost making and water wise irrigation. In addition we’ll talk about seasonal crops and  crop rotation. In recognition of our gardens, the Wickedfood Earth Country Cooking School Food Gardens have recently been nominated as one of Slow Foods Gardens of Africa. During the workshop we will take you through an extensive tour of the gardens. Online Shop

Wickedfood Earth Farm is a small scale sustainable farm and artisanal producer selling off small quantities of excess produce. Orders close at end of work next Wednesday, 6 September. All produce must be pre-ordered for collection, by prior arrangement, at Wickedfood Cooking School, Sunninghill, or at Wickedfood Earth in Hekpoort. – Why not make a day of it come collect next Sunday, 10 September and stay for lunch.

Specials include:

  • A new batch of bacon – Cold smoked loin, shoulder and belly bacon – sliced and vacuum packed ±200g.
  • Breakfast pack – for a perfect morning fry-up.
    Sausage medley – a selection of our favourite 4 pork sausages.
  • Cabanossi- A classic Polish style dried sausage, similar to salami, made with a blend of veld raised pork and beef, finely ground, a perfect snack, two sizes – 150g sticks @ R35 each and thicker whole Cabanossi ±320g each @ R70 each.

At Wickedfood Earth Farm we run a small herd of Dexter cattle, which we slaughter, and process in-house to ensure that we have complete traceability of all our meat. We are once again going to be slaughtering an ox. For meat lovers this will be a unique opportunity to purchase true veld raised and finished beef that has been well hung to dry-age. We are offering you the chance to buy a fore- and/or hind-quarters that we will age, portion into the various cuts, vacuum pack and label. Wickedfood Earth Farm News

Spring is definitely here – all our fruit trees are in flower and bearing a late frost, it looks like our fruit season will be starting a month earlier than usual. This year, if quantities warrant, we will be offering you the opportunity of coming out to the farm and pick your own fruit, followed by a lunch. We will keep you posted as the fruit starts to ripen.

We have started planting our food gardens for the summer. So far we have planted out broccoli, cabbage, lettuce,  cauliflower and spinach (all available as seedlings form your local nursery). In seed trays we have planted chilli, tomato, and eggplant, while we have planted spring onion and beans directly into the ground.

We are starting to harvest asparagus, broad beans, Swiss chard and green garlic. Spinach and Green Garlic Soup is one of Wickedfood Earth‘s favourite spring recipesmore ….

 

Corporate and Team building functions

At both Wickedfood Cooking School in Sunninghill, and Wickedfood Earth Country Cooking School, we offer a selection of function possibilities. We work together with our clients to develop specialised events to suit both the occasion and their budgets. Whether it’s a team building cooking class, corporate function, spit braai or exclusive gourmet country meals, over the last 15 years, we have been tailor-making food-related end-of-year functions for our clients. Without the generous support of our corporate clients and cooking workshops, the Wickedfood Earth Farm projects would not be viable. It is through these corporate events and workshops that we are able to generate funds for the on-going research work and food-related training that we do.
